Easter has always been my favorite holiday. The very meaning of this holiday causes me think about all that I am thankful for. The Sacrifice, the Resurrection of our Lord, And what it means to me as a child of God.
This morning I was doing just that as I peered out my new kitchen window...and thought I would share my view with you through the screen!
Of this ancient lilac bush!
When we first began thinking about where we would move our kitchen during the renovation, it was early May and this bush was in bloom. I was standing at what was a living room window and told my dearest hubby
" I want my sink to be right here! I want to be able to open my window and breathe in the fragrance of my lilacs during the month of May!"
Spring has arrived terribly early this year! And so I am surrounded by my blooms in late March and Early April!
We have had record setting temps. and then, when we go back to our normal temperatures(mid 50s low 60's) and I feel cold!
Tonight we are expecting a freeze and after dinner I am going to run around our garden and cover all the things that have bloomed or budded much too early!
I have decided to let the ancient lilac take care of itself as it has for such a long time. It has probably experienced this at another time in it's long life and knows how to take care of itself!
I did however, bring in baskets of blooms to spread throughout our home this Easter weekend!
Some will go to the cottage...with the view of Tinker in the background!
I filled most of my favorite pitchers with the fragrant blooms!
But this one is my favorite filled with lilacs!
Aqua polka-dots!
This vintage French postcard was a gift from a dear friend a few years ago...I thought you would enjoy it as well!
Until next time...
I wish each of you a blessed Easter!
Happy Eastet to you too! I have an old lilac bush too but mine is white. Which suits me just dandy - I love white!! And I brought a bunch in yesterday. But my camera is not here yet so no photos:( Hopfeully tomorrow my camera will be delivered and I will get some pics before they don't look nice anymore.

I know what you mean with feeling cold! We had the gorgeous weather and now it has been chilly and some of the budded plants have been zapped. I too have old lilacs that are lovely, and am so appreciative of their blooms. Lovely pics Donna, Happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you at Easter. Love your lilac blooms!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lilacs and they look so pretty in the polka-dot pitcher. Flowers really do have a way of making even an ordinary day special! Have a wonderful Easter Donna!
ReplyDeleteDonna I am in love with your lilacs!! They are gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely post, thank you for sharing your lilac bounty with your readers. I especially enjoyed the screen shot....so pretty.
ReplyDeleteAs a garden designer, may I make a suggestion? After your lilacs have bloomed, do some pruning, especially at the base of the plants and along the bottoms of the branches. It will help with the plant's vigor and next year's bloom.
Happy easter darling....love from me...xxx..
ReplyDeleteEeeek! So jealous :) That view...the scent! I think I might stand at the sink and do dishes all day! Ok, not really, but I would stand there all day and gawk and sniff....LOL
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Easter my dear

ReplyDeleteHi sweetie,
ReplyDeleteI love your beautiful lilac...it has such a lovely double bloom! I think I can smell it all the way over here.
We aren't nearly as far in weather as you are and my liacs are still just buds. They are swelling though. I just bought 12 new roses bushes to plant in the garden this spring and I think I had better get started soon. My first day working in the garden was yesterday. I had to go see my mom for a few days, then got sick one day after I was home, so I haven't even been able to get out yet :(
I'll be thinking of you working in Tinker and your lovely garden while I am in mine.
sending love...
Hi Donna

Easter is my favorite holiday too! I've always wanted a window at my kitchen sink. Love that view!
